Surgical Mole Removal Procedures

June 15th, 2009 Comments off

Previously, we’ve talked about how home and natural mole removal are done. Now, we shall look at surgical mole removal procedures which varies by mole type, size, shape and color. As usual, cancerous moles require total medical attention. All mole removal procedures will ensure skin area around mole is numbed using local or general anesthesia. Following are the procedures doctors choose based on mole diagnosis.

Surgery/ Excision

This procedure involves removing protruding mole, including the surrounding and its underlying tissue in form of oval, hence lending the name elliptical excision because a circle is difficult to secure with stitches. A small medical blade is used. After the stitches are done, a bandage is applied. A scab forms and falls off after perhaps 2 weeks. Scarring is possible.

Shaving

The protruding surface of mole is removed or shaved so that it is in level with skin. Usually done for patients who suffer discomfort when mole grazes against clothing. As this procedure leaves mole cells beneath the skin, patients can experience mole regrowth. A flat dark patch will be visible over the shaved mole area.

Cauterization

This is done for moles that are not deep. In this procedure, the mole is scraped using a scalpel initially and then burned off using electric current to stop bleeding. Scab will form and fall off. Requires no stiches, leaves minimal scarring but might require multiple treatments.

Laser

Dubbed to be the best procedure for flat moles as it leaves no marks. Does not work too well on raised moles. Light emitted by laser is used to remove the pigmentation of mole. Number of treatments depend on mole size. Some patients may experience slight tingling sensation while some may experience nothing. Again, a scab will form and drop off.

Radio-Surgery

Whichever procedure is used, ensure the treated area is kept clean and protected by sunblock.

Home Mole Removal definitely does not mean cutting out the mole by yourself. It is another method of natural mole removal that does not involve creams and pastes. In fact you will hardly feel the bite of cost. And if you follow the methods described here religiously, it will pay off a great deal. But I pre warn that most methods require time to work.

Garlic : Place a garlic slice on mole, cut side against the mole. Bandage it overnight to allow the garlic’s natural essence to soak into the mole. Do it for at least 2 to 3 days and the mole will drop off.

Onion : Mix salt and chopped onion to form pulp. Let the pulp soak by its own overnight. The following day, take its juice and apply it on the mole 3 times daily until the mole shrivels and goes away.

Green Apple : Works well on flat moles. Extract the juice of a green apple and apply on mole for a month. Use it at least 3 times daily. Mole will eventually fade or drop off.

Pineapple : Extract the juice the same way as green apple or just take the juice dribbles to dab on mole. You can alternatively bandage pineapple slices onto the mole and let it work overnight. Do this daily too.

Spices : Grind flaxseed or buy the powder. Add a few drops of flaxseed oil and honey to form paste. Apply this on moles daily till they drop off. On the other hand, ground coriander works magically on flat moles. Ground cumin seeds made into paste and bandaged onto mole will help raised moles to drop off over time.

Oils : Either castor oil or tea tree oil help to eliminate raised and falt moles as well as mole scars.

Perserverance will definitely bring result. Good luck!

Mole Removal Cream

Mole Removal Cream or paste work by drying the mole till it shrivels and falls off the skin. Users will experience burning sensation if using the mole removal cream with peroxide. Herbal creams that come with bloodroot or black walnut hull ( just to mention a few) sting less. Bloodroot has been traditionally used by our ancestors to remove moles and has a proven track record. But it can irritate sensitive skin due to its acidic nature. Mole Removal Paste is designed to work faster than cream. However, paste tends to dry out too soon. Retail prices differ according to how fast they work and how many moles they can remove.

Dermatend is a famous herbal based mole removal cream with bloodroot substance. It comes with a pumice stone that is used to rub and clean the mole. After drying the mole, cream or paste is applied and bandaged overnight. Upon removal of bandage next day, a scab would have formed over the mole. Do not pluck. It would dry and fall off within matter of days. All that’s left would be a sore spot that would heal soon. Many other mole removal creams are available in the market such as ITworkspaste , Emuscar Cream, NoNevus, Wart Mole Vanish and more.

The only risks involved are tissue damage (if use highly acidic mole removal creams) and losing money as well as time in case it doesn’t work for you . Some may also be unsuccessful in delaying mole regrowth. But have faith, you will never go wrong with the right product. Remember, the faster the mole removal cream works, the more acidic it is. Unless you have to urgently get the mole off your back, go for a mole removal cream that works slowly but surely.

Natural Mole Removal

Natural Mole Removal refers to removing mole using home remedies or creams and solutions. In this post, we shall take a look at natural mole removal using creams and solutions that contain peroxide or bloodroot. These burn the mole off the skin over a period of time – some guarantee 3 days while some can take longer time. Nevertheless, with natural mole removal you do not have to go under the knife. You can do it on your own. What more, it saves cost and leaves minimal scar. Of course, any mole that shows abnormalities should not be removed using natural mole removal.

Natural mole removal involves a method whereby you will need to clean the mole and apply cream or solution and leave it covered with bandage overnight. When you remove it the following day, you will find a scab over the mole. After that, either you need not apply the cream or apply very minimal amount, depending on mole condition. But end result is the mole will dry and fall off after a few days. For stubborn moles that grow back, the steps may need to be repeated.

As with any other procedures, natural mole removal has its risks too. Before using a particular brand, check the ingredients to see if you are allergic to it. Certain ingredient like Bloodroot is very acidic and can cause burning to the skin as well as swelling. If you have such allergies, you can opt for products with plants extracts or other ingredients such as sea salts, Greater Celandine, Dimethyl Sulfoxide, zinc oxide, and liquid nitrogen. These ingredients are the key factors in deciding how soon or how long the mole gets removed.

So you see, there are many natural mole removal creams or solutions available. Shop around to find the one that suits your mole and budget.

Facial Mole Removal

Basically health and cosmetics reasons drive both sexes towards Facial Mole Removal. Hardly a trivial process, it poses risks of scarring and bankruptcy. Fortunately, there are some safe and cost effective methods that can get rid of unwanted facial moles.

Nevus is a single mole while Nevi is the plural. One thing that must be done before facial mole removal is to send a sample of mole to be checked if it is free from risks of melanoma. This procedure is called biopsy. The result will help to determine correct mode of treatment. Facial mole removal is done by three common procedures; laser therapy, excision with stitching (surgery) or excision with cauterization (shaving). However, shaving method cannot be used on mole with melanoma. Laser therapy works well on flat moles while surgery is usually not advised for removing facial moles unless they are very big. But smaller facial moles are better to be removed by cream, ointment or natural methods. The reason is simply to avoid scarring possibilities. Unlike mole surgery for health reasons, facial mole surgery is usually not covered by insurance companies as it is considered a cosmetic surgery.

To remove facial mole by cream or ointment, you will just need to apply it on the mole for a few days till it dries and falls off by itself. There will be an open wound in place of the mole that can be treated with dermal creams. But again, cancerous mole cannot be treated this way. It will need surgery by dermatologist.

Natural methods for facial mole removal are applying honey, onion juice or pulp side of banana skin on mole every night till it dries. Using tea tree oil on facial mole continuously is claimed to remove moles from the root. Bad news is these methods take months to show results, good news is they hardly leave any scars. Be patient.

Mole Removal Scar

Mole removal scar is result of poor judgement by dermatologist, unsuitable technique and uncalculated risk by patient. Removal by cream and laser minimizes scar as compared to surgery but size and mole type also determine this. Raised mole, if badly removed may cause keloid (raised scar). Likewise, flat mole may leave dark patch mark. Flat moles are easy to remove while raised moles tend to be difficult because the skin surrounding it must also be removed for optimum results. This calls for surgery which can leave crater-like scarring.

Surgery involves two risky scar prone methods. Shave excision causes scar in the form of pigmentation problem and uneven skin contour. It also poses mole regrowth risk. Normally, the other technique called elliptical excision is recommended as it leaves fewer scars. But this technique poses higher risk of bleeding and infection. If done incorrectly, the scar can be pretty ugly especially on younger people.

Doing a proper mole analysis will minimize mole removal scar. Don’t push for it if surgeon advises against mole removal. If you still insist, ask if scar will be temporary or permanent and take measures to overcome it. Scarring can be avoided if mole removal was done at younger age as it heals quickly. A plastic surgeon can also perform a mole scar removal procedure to make the scars less visible.

The treatment and care that follows any mole removal procedure determines what happens next. Ensure wound is covered by bandage after applying antiseptic lotion and avoid exposure under the sun. If there are stitches, ensure it is well covered. After stitches are removed or for those without stitches, massage the area daily to stimulate blood circulation which in turn will help keep scarring at bay.

Home treatments work for less obvious scars. Use Vitamin E ointment or lotion to reduce mole removal scar.

All said and done, break a leg, they say. I say – break a mole!

There are many advantages of laser mole removal. You can expect no scarring, therefore making it popular among people doing it for cosmetics reason. Moles on faces of children are best removed by laser. Children will heal better because the scar will not show when you remove it while still young. It is also preferred due to its no pain procedure. Patients do not need anesthetic while undergoing mole removal. But it is not recommended for large, raised moles because the laser rays do not penetrate deep enough.

Laser mole removal is a procedure where laser light is fired in pulses at the mole. The laser seals blood vessels and evaporates tissue around mole. The mole becomes black, dries and drops off in few weeks time. No involvement of scalpel is required. Size of mole usually determines the number of treatments required. It will hardly show that you ever had a mole removal procedure though you may have to spend quite a bit for laser. Laser mole removal will usually cost around $200 - $400 per session, depending on the mole and will usually require 3 sessions. So, you do the math!

After the laser mole removal, skin can be washed as normal with water and soap. But the area might appear darker or redden. You will need to apply anti septic cream to aid healing for next few weeks. A scab will form and drop off within 2 weeks to reveal new skin. This new skin should be treated with care too, less exposure to sun and amp up on sunscreen to protect the area.

Current breakthrough in this industry has brought radiosurgery which is a more enhanced procedure to replace laser mole removal. It can remove moles in a single treatment in just a few seconds and will leave better results. Anticipate it soon!

Skin Mole Removal

Skin mole removal is removing harmless, unsightly marks or tags on skin using natural treatment, surgical procedure or home remedies. These skin moles sometimes drop off by themselves, change colours or grow bigger due to hormonal changes. For skin moles that disturb a person’s appearance or health, skin mole removal is the solution.

Natural skin mole removal is preferred often times as it saves cost as compared to surgical mole removals. Cream with peroxide is used for natural skin mole removal. The cream is applied on mole for a few weeks. Eventually it dries and falls off, leaving a red spot which heals and blends with skin color after a few weeks. Be wary of burning your skin though.

Home remedies are true and tried methods using spices, herbs or plant extracts. This skin mole removal method can be done in the comfort of your home without you forking out much money. But it will take time to see results.

Surgical procedures are quick and are usually done in the surgeon’s clinic or office. The surgeon will numb the area and then cut out the mole and skin surrounding it. Depending on the depth of mole, stitches are made inside or over the hole. After few weeks, the wound heals; skin dries and falls off leaving a red spot that lightens later. For mole that is not deep, surgeon will scrape with scalpel and stop the bleeding using electrical current. This skin mole removal method would heal after few weeks and dried skin will drop off to reveal new skin. Proper after surgical care should be administrated to avoid scarring. Another method is using liquid nitrogen to freeze the mole and then it will drop off in due time.

Before undergoing any skin mole removal procedure, be sure to consult a dermatologist to determine the condition of your moles.

Everyone has a mole that heightens their attractiveness or depletes their self-confidence.  Mole removal is result of the latter. But of course, some do so for health reasons. Choosing the suitable mole removal method minimizes scars and unnecessary medical complications without leaving you broke.

Your first step towards a fair mole removal cost is to consult a trusted dermatologist because the more complications involved, the more it costs. Getting the right person ensures fairly priced mole removals. That said, all dermatologists have different rates for mole removals. The price is also based on shape and location of the moles. Different states charge differently too.

Average consultation fee for conventional surgery is $30 per session. Total mole removal cost is estimated to be $500 as the surgery costs about $300. Mole biopsy should be included within this cost too. The rest is for in between trips and the last consultation which is to remove the stitches.

Mole removal cost using laser surgery takes fewer sessions and hence costs lesser. It’s suitable for small to medium sized moles. Entire procedure takes about a week to heal without needing many dressings. Estimated mole removal cost by laser is $300.

Last but not least, herbal remedies and creams remove moles naturally, safely and effectively while ensuring minimal mole regrowth. Average cost is within $200.

You should check with your insurance provider if mole removal cost can be borne by them. Usually, mole removal for health purpose is covered while mole removal on cosmetics basis is not covered. Anyhow, it pays to get verification. Some dermatologist or cosmetics centers actually offer financing to bear the mole removal cost. You can later arrange to pay in installment without getting tangled in a web of debt.

In conclusion, the suitable treatment depends on the size of your mole and the size of your wallet.
